- Google Search Console gives you data directly from Google โ no estimates, no guesses. Use it every week.
- High impressions + low CTR = fix your title tag and meta description. This is your fastest ranking win.
- Keywords in positions 4-10 are your best opportunities โ small improvements jump to the top 3.
- Revenue per organic visitor is the most important SEO business metric. Track it monthly.
- SEO takes 3-12 months to compound. Minimal traffic in the first 90 days is completely normal.
Mastering Google Search Console
GSC gives you data directly from Google. Use it every week without fail.
Shows: Clicks, Impressions, CTR, Average Position for every keyword your site appears for.
- Sort by Impressions โ high impressions + low CTR = fix title tags
- Sort by Position โ keywords ranking 4-10 = your best opportunities
- Compare date ranges โ last 3 months vs prior 3 months
- Error โ Not indexed. Fix immediately.
- Valid with warnings โ Indexed but issues exist. Investigate.
- Excluded โ Confirm only the right pages are excluded.
- GSC โ Performance โ Pages tab
- Sort by Impressions (high to low)
- Click high-impression pages โ Queries tab
- Check current title and meta description
- Rewrite to be more compelling โ numbers, power words, year
- Monitor CTR improvement over 4-6 weeks
Google Analytics 4 for SEO
- Create GA4 property at analytics.google.com
- Install Google tag on your site
- Link GA4 to GSC (Admin โ Property โ Service Links)
- Define conversion events (purchase, form submission)
- Enable enhanced measurement (scroll depth, outbound clicks)
Key Reports for SEO
Track organic search % over time. Rising organic % = SEO is working.
Pages with under 30 seconds average engagement may have content relevance issues.
Watch for chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai in referral sources โ these indicate AI citations driving traffic.
Revenue per organic visitor = Total organic revenue รท Total organic visitors. Track monthly โ watch it compound as rankings improve.
